GEOPOMONA Waste Management Company has acquired additional equipment to enhance its waste management and refuse collection capacity.

The new equipment, including compactor skippers, sweepers, and skip trucks arrived at the GeoPomona Waste Management site in Harare from Beira, Mozambique, on Saturday.

The additions are expected to significantly strengthen the company’s refuse collection and overall waste management operations.

GeoPomona has already made a notable impact in restoring Harare’s “Sunshine City” status.

Chief Executive Officer, Dr Dilesh Nguwaya, said the latest development would go a long way in bolstering national waste management capacity.

“This acquisition is part of our strategy to enhance our ability to carry out our mandate. The 56 new pieces of equipment offer a diverse range of capabilities to conduct waste management and refuse collection. With their addition, we are approaching an optimal level to deliver on our mandate,” Dr Nguwaya said.

Meanwhile, beautification work at the GeoPomona Waste-to-Energy Site is underway, with a state-of-the-art restaurant nearing completion.

The new equipment adds to the company’s existing fleet of compactors, skip trucks, and sweepers, which were commissioned by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in May this year.

Recently, GeoPomona also employed over 400 street sweepers and partnered with Harare City Council employees from the Waste Management Department to further strengthen its operations and transform Harare’s waste management landscape.
