ZIMBABWE is intensifying its engagement with the global economy, as Vice President General (Rtd) Dr Constantino Chiwenga is set to lead a delegation to the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.
In an interview with ZBC News ahead of the summit, Mr Shephard Gwenzi, Charge d’Affaires at the Zimbabwe Embassy in South Africa, confirmed that Vice President Chiwenga will represent President Emmerson Mnangagwa at the high-level gathering.
Mr Gwenzi expressed optimism that Zimbabwe’s participation at the G20 Leaders’ Summit signals growing global confidence in the country’s economy, driven by ongoing reforms that have created a favourable environment for growth.
“As you may be aware, the G20 Leaders Summit is scheduled to be held on November 22 to 232025 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre. His Excellency President Ramaphosa invited our President, Dr Mnangagwa, to attend this important event. The President has designated Honourable Vice President Chiwenga to represent him due to prior commitments.
”We are expecting the Honourable Vice President to arrive on Thursday, and he will be here up to November 23. Besides the G20 meeting, he is expected to meet with his counterpart, the Honourable Vice President Paul Mashatile of the Republic of South Africa, at a date to be advised. We expect the meeting to focus on bilateral relations between Zimbabwe and South Africa,” he said.
