Zimbabwe security gala champions mental health, unity and national well-being

THE  Security Association of Zimbabwe spearheaded a call to action against mental health challenges during its Annual Sports Day this Saturday.

It was a refreshing change of pace for hundreds of security service providers across the country, as they participated in the inaugural security services sports gala, a first-of-its-kind event organised by the Security Association of Zimbabwe.

The event which featured soccer, netball, volleyball, and pool, was all about promoting mental wellness, unity, and physical health among the country’s security personnel.

“The security sector is the second-largest employer in Zimbabwe, with over 300,000 workers. Giving them an opportunity like this is not only a break from the demands of the job, but also a step toward improving their well-being,” Executive Committee Member Security Association of Zimbabwe, Chamu Ngwerume said.

In a sector often plagued by high-stress environments, including the constant fear of armed robberies, SAZ President Trevor Jakachira said the games offer relief and help restore confidence.

“We are living in a time of increased violent crime. Our guards are on the frontline. This initiative is about easing that pressure, relieving mental stress, and showing them they are appreciated,” Security Association of Zimbabwe President, Trevor Jakachira noted.

“This is good for team spirit, mental health, and ultimately improves productivity. A happy, motivated guard is a more efficient one,” Employer Richard Robinson added.

At times, strengthening the protector means giving them a chance to unwind and play.
