THE battle for promotion has reached fever pitch in all four Division One regions, with margins so fine that every goal, every save, and every whistle could determine who joins the elite in next season’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
Eastern Regions side FC Hunters are four points away from Premier Soccer League football after a win over Masvingo United moved them two points ahead with two games to play.
The Marondera-based side has had a healthy goal difference, and if they manage to overcome their next opponents, second-placed Tenax, who trail by two points, they will virtually have one hand on the trophy.
The league has been a thrilling contest, with FC Hunters, a relatively new team, competing against seasoned former Premiership sides fighting for promotion.
In the Southern Region, Bulawayo Chiefs are on the verge of returning to the top flight, leading Hwange by five points.
Bulawayo Chiefs have 67 points, while Hwange have 65 points with five matches remaining.
Nkayi, who were once in the title race, are falling by the wayside and on Saturday they drew 1-all with Bulawayo City and now sit third with 59 points.
In the Northern Region, N’ombeyaora and Agama are locked in a tight battle, separated by just one point.
N’ombeyaora lead with 76 points, while Agama trail closely with 75 points and five games left to play.
The Central Region’s title race is also heating up, with Hadrock and Sheasham separated by a single point.
Hadrock top the pack with 73 points, while Sheasham have 72 points with five matches remaining.
