MEMBERS of the Cross-Border Traders for ED in Mashonaland West Province have received working capital support under the Presidential Empowerment Fund.

The initiative aims to provide traders with much-needed working capital while enhancing their active participation in economic activities, contributing to sustainable growth and empowerment at the grassroots level.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the party for recognising their contribution to the economy, pledging to use the funds responsibly.

“This initiative shows that our party has our interest at heart,” a beneficiary said.

“As small traders, we often struggle to raise enough capital to restock and transport our goods. This support from the Presidential Empowerment Fund will help us grow our businesses and become more competitive. We are very grateful to our party and to the Cross-Border Traders for ED for remembering us at the grassroots level,” cross-border trader, Coleen Chinovainzwa said.

“This funding means a lot because it gives us a fresh start. Most of us operate with very little working capital, and it is difficult to expand. Now we can buy in bulk and improve our livelihoods. We promise to use the funds wisely so that others can also benefit from this revolving fund,” another beneficiary, Eunice Jokonya said.

“I am into apiculture. With this fund, I am now able to expand my beehives and ensure that my ventures grow,” a trader, Munetsi said.

Cross-Border Traders for ED National Chairperson, David Masomere, called for accountability and discipline in the use of the revolving fund to ensure others also benefit in the future.

“This fund must revolve. Let us make sure it grows and benefits even more traders. Accountability is key if we are to sustain empowerment at the grassroots level. As leaders, our vision is very clear: we must contribute to national development and shun corruption. Let us use the lawful point of entry and pay our dues. On our part, we are lobbying for a conducive working environment that stimulates growth and compliance,” he said.

Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Marian Chombo, commended the initiative.

“Government continues to place trust in our people. Empowerment must reach every citizen, because no one and no place should be left behind. Let us play our part in building our country and try to abide by our laws. Let us be responsible businesspersons and shun drug trafficking and abuse,” she said.

The Presidential Empowerment Fund has also been extended to seven other affiliates, as ZANU-PF accelerates efforts to promote inclusive development across provinces.
