SCOTLAND reinforced their championship credentials with a narrow 1-0 victory over Chicken Inn at Barbourfields Stadium this Friday, holding firmly onto the top spot in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
A sixth-minute goal by Tymon Machope proved decisive, earning the visitors all three points and solidifying their position at the summit of the log.
Scottland have now opened a four-point game at the summit despite playing two more games than their closest rivals, Simba Bhora.
Khama Billiat was in scintillating form, providing an assist which ensured Mabviravira collected maximum points on the road.
“I think it was a very exciting match . We played on a good pitch and the boys enjoyed the turf. We have good players who enjoy playing on such pitches. I think the experience and quality in our team carried the day, and it worked according to our plan of getting an early goal,” Scottland head coach, Tonderai Ndiraya said.
Firstly, I thought we gave them too much respect in the first half. They scored an early goal . The game had few chances, but most of the chances came our way. We had a good game, but that’s the nature of the game. Otherwise, we just have to keep going . The struggle continues,” Chicken Inn head coach, Joey Antipas said.
Scottland were the better side, coming up with consistent raids but failing to convert. But they were found wanting in burying in front of the goal.
In the second half, Chicken Inn pressed for an equaliser with striker Lynoth Chikuhwa coming close to punishing his parent club.
The result leaves the Gamecocks in the relegation intensive care unit with four games remaining in a complicated relegation matrix.
Saturday action will see TelOne hosting Division One-bound Kwekwe United at Ascot, MWOS face Green Fuel at Ngoni, and Manica Diamonds entertain Triangle at Sakubva.
