ZIMBABWE is looking at further deepening economic ties with Japan, maximising on the benefits accrued during the Expo 2025 Osaka, which concludes next month.

This came out during a meeting between the Japan envoy to Zimbabwe, Ambassador Yamanaka Shinichi and Vice President Kembo Mohadi in Harare this Monday.

Vice President Mohadi met Ambassador Shinichi, in Harare ahead of his visit to Japan for the Expo2025 Osaka. The engagement provided a pivotal scope to further strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries, building on the momentum of Japan’s premium trade showcase as well as the recently concluded 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) held in Yokohama, Japan.

“So I am convinced that the visit of this high-level mission to Japan will contribute to the further expansion and strengthening of the friendship and cooperation between our two countries. Your Excellency, just a quick one in terms of the ties that exist between Japan and Zimbabwe,” Ambassador Shinichi said.

Following earlier visits by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Japan looks to bolster synergies in agriculture, infrastructure, and other key areas of cooperation.

“Yes, we are cooperating in various areas, not only the infrastructure, but also the agriculture, health, education, and mine clearance. So we are continuing the support to Zimbabwe at the current level of cooperation,” Ambassador Shinichi said.

Vice President Mohadi’s visit to Japan will therefore reinforce this trajectory, offering Zimbabwe a chance to access expertise in technology and manufacturing.
