PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has met with leaders from China Railways Group and Huawei Technologies, who have expressed keen interest in expanding their business footprint in Zimbabwe.

The high-level engagement focused on transformative investment projects that are expected to revitalise the country’s transport and technology sectors.

Speaking on the sidelines of the meeting, Finance and Investment Promotion Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube, described the development as a “game changer” for Zimbabwe’s transport sector.

An investment of US$600 million has been earmarked for the comprehensive overhaul of the national railway system, a move anticipated to boost trade efficiency and improve passenger services.

At the same time, Huawei will broaden its operations in Zimbabwe by modernising systems and deploying cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies to accelerate the country’s digital transformation.
