THE race for the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League honours is shaping up, amid indications it could soon become a two-horse race between debutants, MWOS FC and defending champions, Simba Bhora.
It was a mission accomplished for the Lloyd Mutasa-coached outfit, MWOS, after breaching the 40-point target.
The Norton-based outfit had set a target of evading the dreaded chop and a one-nil victory over Bikita Minerals at the weekend did not only confirm survival but also raised prospects of the team lifting the trophy in their debut season.
MWOS capitalised on defending champions, Simba Bhora’s failure to collect maximum points against ZPC Kariba and have since opened a three-point lead over the Shamva-based side.
Former champions, Ngezi Platinum Stars maintained their momentum, beating Green Fuel one-nil to occupy third position on 31 points.
Chicken Inn managed to exorcise the Luveve ghost after collecting a second win over Yadah.
The Gamecocks, who beat Ngezi Platinum Stars at home a few weeks ago, had a 2-1 outing over the Miracle Boys.
On the opposite side of the log standings, Harare giants, Dynamos further slipped into the murky waters of relegation after a 2-nil hiding by Herentals.
It was a difficult lesson for DeMbare who occupy the second slot from the bottom on 15 points from 18 outings, a record low for the country’s most decorated club.
CAPS United posted a one-nil victory over the expensively assembled Scottland to take their tally to 20 points.
The Green Machine now lies 12th on the ladder.
It was not a rosy outing for struggling Bulawayo giants, Highlanders, who failed what seemed like an easy assignment, as they were held to a frustrating nil-all draw by bottom side, Kwekwe United.
