ZEC and ZACC commit to upholding electoral integrity

THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has reaffirmed its dedication to good governance, emphasising its role in ensuring the effective execution of public duties.

The intersection of good governance and electoral integrity is widely recognised as the cornerstone of national development.

With this in mind, the ZEC Chairperson, Commissioners and Secretariat signed integrity pledges this Friday as the government pushes for greater accountability in public service and institutionalising the fight against corruption.

“This embodies our resolve, our willingness to operate credibly for our people. Management and staff are crucial in setting the tone for integrity, holding each other accountable to our values,” ZEC Chairperson, Justice Priscilla Chigumba said.

Joining the process was the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), whose Chairperson, Mr Michael Reza, commended ZEC for taking a proactive role in self-regulation and accountability, noting that integrity cannot be legislated but must be lived.

“This is an affirmation of our zero-corruption principles. We are institutionalising today a commitment bearing directly on electoral outcomes. Institutional credibility is not granted, it’s earned. Good governance is built on accountability,” he said.

Zimbabwe continues to refine its anti-corruption framework, with the introduction of specialised courts, the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy, and an increasing push for ethics-based governance across public institutions.

The signing of integrity pledges by ZEC aligns with global standards, including the United Nations Convention Against Corruption, which advocates for integrity-building measures in both public and private institutions.

As the country prepares for future elections, ZEC’s commitment to transparency and ethical leadership reinforces the foundation for electoral credibility and national development.
