THE Zimbabwe Rugby Union (ZRU) has announced the Sables squad for the 2025 Rugby Africa Cup, scheduled to be hosted by Uganda from July 8 to July 19.

Zimbabwe’s senior rugby team will be aiming to defend the continental title when they take to the field at Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, Uganda.

The squad retains the core of last year’s championship-winning side, while introducing key additions to strengthen the team.

Among those making a return are pacey winger Matthew McNab, resilient flanker Jason Fraser, and reliable kicker Lenience Tambwera, who all bring valuable experience as the Sables gear up for what could be a historic campaign.

Speaking ahead of the team’s departure, captain Hilton Mudariki emphasised the need for focus and discipline.

“This is a golden ticket opportunity for Zimbabwean rugby, but we are not getting ahead of ourselves. Due to the nature of the Africa Cup, every game is a final. The only way to reach the top is by staying grounded, sticking to our systems, and respecting every opponent,” said Mudariki.

Zimbabwe faces Morocco in their opening match on the 8th of this month, with the winner set to qualify for the semi-final, which will be between the winner of the East African match between hosts Uganda and Kenya.

The winner of the 2025 Rugby Africa Cup will qualify directly for the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia, while the runner-up will earn a spot in the final global repechage tournament.
The team is set to leave for Uganda this Saturday.
