THE Cheetahs technical department has named a strong squad for the 2025 Rugby Africa Sevens Cup set for Mauritius from the 21st to the 22nd of this month.
The Cheetahs squad is headlined by Sharks flanker, Blithe Mavesere, who is coming from a very impressive season in South Africa and international competitions.
Affectionately known as ‘Driller,’ Mavesere has been on top of his game and was part of the Sharks’ squad for the United Rugby Championship.
He will be joined by fellow internationals including tear-away back-rowers, Tapiwa Mufura, and Brandon Mudzekenyedzi.
Cheetahs head coach, Ricky Chirengende has also kept the core of the squad, retaining Godfrey Magaramombe, Ryan Musimhi, Tapiwa Malenga and Carlos Matematema.
The squad also has youthful stars in Dion Khumalo, Edward Sigauke and Munashe Dukuswa who is with Tuks rugby club in South Africa.
The Cheetahs are drawn in Pool C alongside tournament hosts Mauritius, Tunisia, and Madagascar.
The top two teams in each pool are guaranteed a place in the knockout stages, making every match a must-win encounter.
A top finish in Mauritius not only brings silverware but positions the Cheetahs for qualification pathways to the World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series, a crucial step toward global competition and Olympic qualification.
The last time Zimbabwe lifted the Rugby Africa Sevens title was in 2012.
