ZVISHAVANE – A 52-year-old man from Zvishavane has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for raping a 12-year-old neighbour on several occasions.
On an unknown date to the prosecutor, but in February this year at around 0800hrs, the accused called the complainant’s brother, instructing him to send his sister to his house to collect some food.
The court heard that upon arrival, the complainant entered into the kitchen to collect food but was then called to the bedroom by the accused.
Facts are that after she entered the bedroom, the accused then locked the door and raped the juvenile once and threatened her with death if she revealed the matter to anyone.
After the shameless act, the accused gave the complainant a pill and told her it would prevent her from getting pregnant.
Since then, the accused would call the juvenile to his house, where he would rape her several times.
The matter came to light in May this year when the complainant revealed the matter to her other neighbour, leading to the arrest of the accused.
A medical report was produced in court as exhibit and the accused was sentenced to 18 years behind bars.
