ZRP integral to national development, says government

THE government says the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is a critical player in the country’s development matrix, hence the need for continuous capacitation of the force.

This was emphasised by the Permanent Secretary for Presidential Affairs in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Engineer Tafadzwa Muguti when he delivered a lecture on Devolution and Whole of Government Approach to senior police officers in Harare this Wednesday.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Engineer Muguti highlighted the significance of the engagement in having an empowered police force.

“We have noticed that local authorities often overlook the police in developmental planning. Typically, the ZRP is only brought in during the aftermath, such as during demolitions. We want to move away from that reactive mindset. It is time to be agile and proactive, recognising the ZRP as a key stakeholder in our economic development.”

Engineer Muguti says government is keen on continuous capacitation of the country’s security services.

“We are quite excited and very happy with the work that Zimbabwe Public Police is doing. We will continue to train them, lecture them, empower them, and we will continue to support them as the Office of the President of the Cabinet, and also to support the Minister of Home Affairs in terms of whatever else they need for us to ensure that we are the best of the police force.”

As part of his remarks, Engineer Muguti tore into name droppers challenging the police to fervently execute their duties and promote a culture of accountability.
