ZIMBABWE’S local industry is set to benefit from enhanced cooperation between Zimbabwe and China.

This follows a high-level engagement between the Executive Vice Governor of China’s Jiangsu Province, Mr Ma Xin, and the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Honourable Mangaliso Ndlovu, held in Harare this Wednesday.

The visit aims to explore investment opportunities and enhance capacity in key sectors of the economy such as leather manufacturing and pharmaceuticals.

“We are pleased to meet the Vice Governor of The Jiangsu Province, who has pledged to work with us in resuscitating the manufacturing sectors and of particular interest is the pharmaceuticals sector which is gobbling hundreds of millions of dollars in imports. The Chinese have pledged to make some investments locally to revive these sectors,” Honourable Ndlovu said.

The Vice Governor pledged to support Zimbabwe’s sectors which are key in driving manufacturing sector growth.

“We are very much interested in investing and importing modern technologies to Zimbabwe and we have identified the sectors that we are interested to invest in at the moment,” he said.

The Chinese delegation has met several organisations and parastatals including the Airports Company of Zimbabwe as economic relations between the two countries continue to blossom.
