Mash West Independence Celebrations set as Ngezi Platinum and MWOS Clash

For this year’s Mashonaland West provincial Independence Day celebrations are at an advanced stage, with Mbafa Primary School in Chegutu set to host the commemorations. A football match between Premier Soccer League side Ngezi Platinum and MWOS will headline the day’s festivities.

Speaking during a ZANU PF Provincial Coordinating Committee meeting on Saturday, Politburo member and Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Cde Ziyambi Ziyambi, applauded the decentralisation of national events, saying it allows provinces to participate more actively in national milestones.

“I want to commend the people in Mashonland West for not taking part in the demonstrations organised by Geza who is currently in hiding,” he said.

“We have also noted that there have been some messages circulating regarding impeaching the President, let me hasten to say, the legislative process is not as easy as it is being put on social media. The Zanu PF has the whipping system in Parliament, and we stand as one in the August House.

“Those that claim Zanu PF Members of Parliament will take part in the planned impeachment are dreaming,” Cde Ziyambi said.

“We remain guided by our party’s ideology and resolutions. We are a party that has stood the test of time and therefore we should remain united and shun from divisive tendencies that disturb our peace. We want to thank His Excellency Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa for decentralising national events which we are now following at provincial and district levels,” ZANU PF Mashonaland West Provincial chairperson, Cde Mary Mliswa Chikoka said.

Meanwhile, Cde Mliswa-Chikoka revealed that they have started the process to replace expelled War Veteran Blessed Geza and provincial member Gifford Gomwe.

Geza who was a member of the Central Committee was expelled from the ruling party for undermining the authority of the President.

“Discipline is an integral part of our system as the ruling party. Party members should at all times defend the party’s position and respect its leaders.  We are now in the process of replacing expelled members Geza and Gomwe from their respective positions,” she said.

Minister of State for Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Marian Chombo, said preparations for the provincial independence celebrations are now at an advanced stage.

“The celebrations will be held at Mbafa Primary School in Uhuru Nakazi of Chegutu East constituency. We are expecting around 15 000 people. As of now, everything is set for the event. Ngezi Platinum FC and MWOS will battle it out for the provincial independence title. This is in addition to various other four entertainment activities in place. We have ensured that water and electricity are available on the day,” she said.

Party members were also warned against misuse of social media with the ruling party in the process of formulating a new social media policy.
