THE Speaker of Parliament, Advocate Jacob Mudenda, is in Botswana to witness the signing of the agreement to amend the SADC Treaty by President Duma Boko.

The agreement marks a key step towards transforming the SADC Parliamentary Forum (SADC PF) into a fully-fledged regional parliament.

Botswana becomes the 14th SADC member to endorse the treaty, advancing regional governance, legislative harmonisation, and parliamentary cooperation.

The signing sets the stage for the SADC Protocol, expected to be formalised at the SADC Summit chaired by President Emmerson Mnangagwa later this year.

Advocate Mudenda, a key advocate for this transformation over the past 11 years and Chairman of the Strategic lobby team, previously led a Strategic lobby mission to Botswana in August 2024 and his presence underscores Zimbabwe’s commitment to regional integration and parliamentary diplomacy.

During his visit, Advocate Mudenda will also invite SADC Parliaments to the 57th SADC PF Plenary Assembly, set for May 31– June 7, 2025 in Victoria Falls, running under the theme “Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Effective Parliamentary Processes.”
