China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, has called for immediate action to ensure the UN’s Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) resumes delivering humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, after the ceasefire agreement.

The Chinese representative was addressing a U.N. Security Council meeting held to discuss the impending Israeli laws which will ban UNRWA from operating in Israel and Palestinian territories from this Thursday.

Representatives from other countries also reiterated their support for the continued operation of UNRWA.

Meanwhile, UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini says the services provided by the agency are unique and irreplaceable, calling on countries to take decisive action to uphold the basic rights of Palestinian refugees.

The Gaza-Israel conflict has been going on since the 7th of October 2023.
