THE Victoria Falls City Football Club has undergone a significant rebranding, after partnering Premier League side Herentals FC to form Victoria Falls Herentals Football Club.
Now known as Victoria Falls Herentals FC, the partnership with the renowned PSL Club injects the much-needed structure, finance and professional expertise to the club, which finished eighth last season.
“This partnership signifies talent retention and resource mobilisation. It prepares us for the season ahead. While Victoria Falls boasts a tourism-driven economy, there has been limited buy-in from the tourism sector into local football.
“Premier League football will attract big clubs like Dynamos, Caps United, and Highlanders, bringing fans and filling lodges. This partnership with Herentals, a Premier League powerhouse, is a significant step forward,” Victoria Falls City FC chairperson, Martin Mhlanga.
“Herentals brings Premier League experience to the table. This twinning arrangement involves coach exchanges, player development programs, and shared expertise. Players from both clubs will gain valuable experience in different environments,” Herentals Football Club, Chairperson, Tafadzwa Benza said.
The partnership is expected to significantly boost sport tourism in Victoria Falls as help bolster the fight against drug and substance abuse.
“Victoria Falls tourism experiences seasonal fluctuations. Football provides a year-round attraction. Hosting Premier League games and even international friendlies will keep the city vibrant during the off-season,” Mhlanga added.
“The government is actively positioning Victoria Falls as a premier sport tourism destination, with the Mosi Oa Tunya International Cricket Stadium serving as a flagship venue,” Acting Mayor-City of Victoria Falls, Councillor Dereck Munsaka said.
The Victoria Falls Herentals FC further solidifies this position, making the resort city a must-visit for sports enthusiasts.
