Water levels in major dams are improving, owing to the current wet spell being experienced across the country.
The dam levels which were affected by the El Nino-induced drought last summer, are rising again with the average national dam level at 59 percent.
ZINWA spokesperson Mrs Marjorie Munyonga said, “The current wet spell being experienced in the country continues to push water levels in major dams up with national average at 59 percent, making 1.59 improvement by December 30, the average levels, however, remain below the 78 percent during the same period last year.”
Positive gains of water inflows have been observed in Bubi, Lupane, Mzingwane, Mtshabezi, Manyame and Mutirikwi among other dams.
“We are hopeful to see an improvement as the current rains continue to push water levels up,” noted Mrs Manyonga.
Notable water inflows have been recorded in big dams such as Tugwi Mukosi now at 60 percent, Masembura at 78 percent as well as Khami and Exchange dams supplied by Gwayi River, now 100 percent full.
