Murasiranwa launches soccer tournament in Chihota

CANADA-based professional footballer Darlington Murasiranwa has launched a soccer tournament in his home area of Chihota in Marondera as part of giving back to the community which raised him.

The 23-year-old who turns out for Canadian Premier League side Valour FC and is on an off-season break.

The tournament, which also featured netball teams, saw four districts competing – Chitangazuva, Bumburwi, Marondera and Chizengeni.

The Valour FC first first-choice goalkeeper is keen on developing talents in his rural area.

“Zimbabwe will always be my home and that is why I had to come and sponsor this tournament so that we develop football at the grassroots level,” he said.

The area leadership is appreciative of the gesture from the player.

“We are very happy with what this young man has done and we urge other sons and daughters of this area to come back home and help develop the area,” Councillor Edward Gata said.

Musariranwa, who yearns to don the Warriors jersey, has represented Canada at youth level and had a good season at Valour FC which finished eighth in the Canada Premier League.
