Left-handers Ben Curran and Newman Nyamhuri have been rewarded for their good form after receiving call ups to the senior national cricket team squad set to face Afghanistan in a white ball series.

Zimbabwe and Afghanistan are set to face off in three T20s, as many ODIs and a once off test match beginning this Wednesday and running till January all at Harare Sports Club.

28-year golf Ben Curran, son of former Zimbabwe international and coach, the late Kevin Curran and also the brother to England internationals Tom and Sam Curran earned his place following stellar performances in domestic setup.

Left arm pace bowler Newman Nyamhuri who has been one of the country’s standout young talents, impressing earlier this year at the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup in South Africa has also been called up.

Both Curran and Nyamhuri have been named in the ODI squad, which also welcomes back pace bowler Victor Nyauchi.

They replace Faraz Akram, Brandon Mavuta and Clive Madande, who is recovering from a dislocated shoulder.

The rest of the squad from Zimbabwe’s recent ODI series against Pakistan remains unchanged.

In the only changes to the T20I squad, Nyamhuri comes in alongside opening batter Takudzwanashe Kaitano, who is in line to make his debut in the shortest format.

The T20 internationals start this Wednesday with the remaining two matches set for Friday and Sunday all at Harare Sports Club.

Meanwhile Afghanistan arrived in the country on Saturday.
