THE Meteorological Services Department has advised the public to exercise extreme caution during the next few days as the country is expected to receive heavy rains characterised by hailstorms in some areas.
According to the Meteorological Services Department, the first rains that cover the country will be coupled with hailstorms, lighting and heavy winds hence the public is advised to take extreme caution.
“We have a cloud band which entered the country from the west into Matabeleland and Bulawayo. It brought some rains which are now spreading across the country with some areas in Bulawayo receiving over 107 milliliters of rains, while areas in Harare received over 100 mm,” noted Mr Maketa, a Meteorologist.
The Met Department has re-affirmed the country’s prospects of a good rainfall season.
“The season is still promising good rains which must bring relief to the country following the El Nino induced drought last year.”
As the country shifts from the El Nino-induced drought to the La Niña phenomenon, farmers are being implored to take advantage of the rains to intensify land preparations and planting.
