African Cricket Board eyes Pan African League

THE Africa Cricket Association (ACA) has drawn plans to set up a new franchise tournament named the African Premier League which will feature clubs from across the continent.

Smaller cricketing nations like St Lucia and Ghana will soon be proffered an opportunity to catch up with the  International Cricket Council (ICC) ‘s full member nations after plans to create a league on the continent.

Speaking during a media briefing after the ACA Annual General Meeting held in Harare this Saturday, the association’s leadership revealed that plans are in motion to set up a continental league in the near future.

The league is meant to create a platform for expertise exchange, to facilitate the integration of ACA members into the ICC full membership status.

 “So far we only have two ICC full number states, that is South Africa and Zimbabwe, therefore we are using this as a launch pad for the other member states to borrow a leaf from these two and get full member status,” said Africa Cricket Association Interim Chairman, Tavengwa Mukuhlani.

“The league is like a version of the IPL, and we will find a venue after deliberations to fully action the league. It is all in consideration,” Africa Cricket Association Executive Director, Qassim Suleman added.

At the AGM Zimbabwe Cricket chair, Mukuhlani was appointed the interim chairman of the association until next year’s AGM.
