THE 7th Africa Colloquium for Legal Counsels to Parliaments ended in Victoria Falls this Tuesday with strong emphasis on embracing digital technologies and enhancing public awareness.

The key resolution adopted by the participants is the need to leverage digital tools to improve the efficiency and transparency of parliamentary processes.

This includes the use of online platforms for legislative drafting, public consultations, and the dissemination of parliamentary information.

Africa Colloquium’s immediate past president, Ms Elizabeth Hove said “The encouragement is that we embrace the idea around the adoption of digital technologies and how to use them within parliaments. This includes creating committees of the future where matters of digital technologies, innovations, and digital technologies are catered for.”

The colloquium also highlighted the importance of public awareness and engagement in parliamentary activities.

“There was also a resolution around embracing public participation, opening up the space of public participation between our parliaments, in particular looking at our different jurisdiction and the citizenry and residents that are within them. We also spoke on how best to encourage one another in our work and how we are going to create an e-newsletter which will be circulated soon and will be found on our website,” noted Ms Hove.

As Africa continues to embrace the digital age, the colloquium serves as a significant step towards leveraging technology to strengthen democratic governance and empower citizens.
