GOVERNMENT’s road rehabilitation programme has sparked more smiles for Spirtzkop residents in Zvimba East as another key access stretch of the Solomon Mujuru Road was officially opened to traffic this Monday.
The road was officially commissioned by Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister, Honourable Felix Mhona this Monday with residents expressing joy at the development.
Minister Mhona highlighted that the government is continuing with road rehabilitation as promised before the SADC Summit, pledging to cover more underdeveloped roads.
He said, “As a ministry, the trend continues and here at Spirtzkop we have changed the face of the area as people and motorists are now easily connected to key markets. This resonates with the President’s call to ensure that no one and no place is left behind in bringing positive change to their life.”
Funding for some of the projects is coming from the Zimbabwe National Roads Authority (ZINARA) which is working closely with contractors.
“ZINARA has more than US$50 million at the moment and is disbursing to various local authorities in spearheading these projects, thanks to a new look ZINARA that is helping to fund and spearhead the national infrastructure development drive,” said ZINARA’s board chairperson, Dr George Manyaya.
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development is spearheading several infrastructural projects and last week, Cabinet approved a built, operate and transfer deal for the rehabilitation of the Beitbridge-Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Highway.
