President Mnangagwa caps over 3 500 CUT graduates

MORE than 3 500 graduands were capped by President Emmerson Mnangagwa at Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) this Friday, with the graduates being challenged to be innovative.

The 20th CUT graduation ceremony saw students being conferred with degrees from various fields of study.

A graduate said, “The programme which I did has empowered me to be creative and explore various opportunities which are brought forward by technology.”

“Going forward, we are embracing the government’s vision of innovation and industrialisation. We have the ideas and the minds to transform our own country and I believe with the support being rendered to young people, the sky is the limit,” added another

“As a parent, I implore our graduates to shun the dangerous scourge of drugs and substance abuse,” said a parent.

Chinhoyi University of Technology Vice-Chancellor, Professor David Simbi highlighted the institution’s milestones after the introduction of innovation hubs at tertiary institutions.

He said, “The agenda for the modernisation and industrialisation of Zimbabwe has remained topical. Your University of Technology aptly embraced the country’s vision. When you laid the foundation stone at the Agro Industrial Park, it was an affirmation to us of your desire for a food secure Zimbabwe. To this end, the institution’s education curricula has been revised to meet the learning needs for programmes that impact skills and practical competencies for the production of goods and services.”

Government is currently implementing the Education 5.0 model which speaks to the transformation of the education sector towards innovation and industrialisation as a vehicle for attaining Vision 2030.
