Government has provided funeral assistance to bereaved families of the five girls who died in a road traffic accident in Bindura on Saturday.

The families are grappling to come to terms with the tragic incident involving four girls who lived in the same street and are all related by virtue of being cousins in an extended family set-up, while the fifth girl is a friend.

“I am in great pain, if I tell you the history of my daughter it’s touching. My wife died in 2014 and the girl was 4 years old. You know it’s tough to look after a child without its mother. To tell the truth, to the driver who did this I can’t say anything to him, I am also a driver accidents just happen. But if he was drunk, God help me,” said father to one of the deceased, Mr Richard Saidi.

Earlier, Mashonaland Central Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Christopher Magomo paid condolences to the bereaved families.

“I want to express my condolences, it is sad and hard to believe that five girls have died. As a province, we are saddened. I want to implore you to mourn with hope and find comfort in my few words. As a government we have provided assistance, this is state state-funded funeral. The army has chipped in with assistance and the DDC’s office is here,” he said.

Meanwhile, the burial of the five girls, which was scheduled for Monday at Makusha Cemetery, is yet to take place.
