An armed robber who pounced on a Mukuru booth at Mahusekwa Growth Point in Marondera on the 14th of November last year has been jailed an effective 15 years.
34-year-old Sterling Mhungu, also known as Tinashe Jaji, was found guilty of armed robbery and was jailed for 10 years for the offence and an additional five years for attempted murder.
Mhungu was accused of getting away with US$4 233 and R10 500 from a cash box at the Mukuru booth manned by Clive Honye after demanding cash at gunpoint.
Mhungu, who accidentally shot himself on the leg, was immediately arrested.
Two pistols were recovered, one loaded with five live rounds and the other with three live rounds, while four spent cartridges were recovered at the scene.
