National Hero Brigadier General (Rtd) Michael Chaminuka who died on Saturday last week will be buried at the National Heroes Acre on Monday.
The National Hero’s body will be flown to his rural home in Hurungwe Saturday morning before being taken to the Chaminuka Farm in Karoi where it will lie in State.
The body will be flown back to Harare on Sunday before burial at the national shrine on Monday.
The development was confirmed by family spokesperson Mitchel Chaminuka this Friday.
“We are having a service here at home tonight. The body of the late is expected to be flown to Hurungwe around 10 AM on Saturday after that day, the body will be taken to Foliot Farm in Karoi where it will lie in state, then on Sunday, the body we be flown back to Harare,” said the family’s spokesperson, Mitchell Chaminuka.
The family of the late national hero is grateful to the government for the national hero status accorded to Brigadier General (Rtd) Chaminuka.
“We are so grateful because my brother contributed a lot and he deserved to be considered a national hero,” said Mr Siro Mamombe.
George Chaminuka said, “He was a pillar of strength to the family and we have lost a father, a brother, an uncle.”
Friend to the late national hero, Mr Washington Mushawarima described him as a unifier.
“He united people, he would advise me to encourage my kids to pursue their education, when I heard about the news of his death, I was so devastated,” he said.
Brigadier General (Rtd) Chaminuka who died last Saturday after a short illness was declared a National Hero as a result of his immense contribution in advancing the national interest during the liberation struggle and after independence.
He leaves behind his wife Lilian Chaminuka and five children.
