THE Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) is aligning to the public-private partnership model to improve operations and unlock opportunities for growth.
The ZPCS is expanding its scope through business ventures after successfully completing a tourism-linked project at Dam View unveiled in Harare this Saturday.
“We had for to divert a little because we are a correctional institution. Remember, the government’s thrust is to rehabilitate inmates. We need to enter into a number of projects which allow the inmates to go back to the community and to contribute to the economy of the country. Most of our rehabilitation programs require us to contribute in the economy and on the other hand assist inmates for reintegration into society,” said ZPCS Commissioner General, Dr Moses Chihobvu.
The Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Honourable Babra Rwodzi noted the facility represents a new chapter in the ZPCS’s commercialisation endeavors.
“Let us realize that this place is not just a venue, it is a hub of creativity and innovation, a place where artists can showcase their talents, where entrepreneurs can launch their businesses, where community organisations can come together to make a difference and where the public can come to socialize and refresh. This garden will certainly serve as a catalyst for the growth and development of the organization by providing a wide range of services,” she said.
Government is on an acceleration drive to reshape and make the economy thrive and one of the strategies being employed is to fully make use of public-private partnerships under which the private sector would partner government departments to deliver and promote economic growth.
