Vote counting continues in South Africa, with the ruling ANC leading at 42 percent of ballots counted so far.

With more than 60 percent of results declared, the ruling ANC is in the lead with the Democratic Alliance in second followed by the MK party, while the Economic Freedom Fighters is fourth.

The South Africa Election Commission has seven days from the date of the elections to announce results.

The IEC said it will announce final results on Sunday.

If no party garners the required 50 percent, a coalition has to be formed between the ANC and another party in order to choose the next President of South Africa in Parliament.

Meanwhile, election observers this Friday presented preliminary findings with the SADC Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM) to the South African elections commending the people of South Africa for political maturity, spirit of tolerance and calm that generally prevailed during the electoral period.

The African Union stated that inspite of the logistical and technical challenges, South Africa’s 2024 elections were a demonstration of the country’s unwavering dedication to peace, democracy and inclusivity.
