Young people have welcomed the reintroduction of the National Youth Service Programme which seeks to shape young people into responsible future leaders of the country.
Youths who spoke to the ZBC News at the launch of the National Youth Service at Nhakiwa Vocational Training Centre in Uzumba have welcomed the reintroduction of the programme saying they are convinced that it will mould them into responsible citizens.
“This programme is very welcome since we will be oriented to be responsible youths who can defend their country,” said a youth.
Another said, “This programme will also help us in shunning away from drug and substance abuse while also opening many opportunities.”
The government pledged to continue supporting the programme which seeks to capacitate the youth dividend into responsible citizens and future leaders.
“As a ministry, we are aware of the important role our youths play in nation building,” said the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, Hon Tino Machakaire.
Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Senator Aplonia Munzverengwi said, “We are excited as a province that this programme has been launched and we believe our youth will benefit a lot.”
Meanwhile, the National Youth Service Programme has already opened it’s doors to the first intake with 90 youths from Mashonaland East province undergoing training in Vumba, Manicaland province.
