THE Zimbabwean basketball champions, JBC are through to the Elite 16 Division of the Basketball Africa League qualifiers after thumping Munali Suns of Zambia 87-50 at the University of Botswana Indoor Arena in Botswana this Monday.
Tashinga Chimba led the scorers with 17 points, while point guard Dyvonne Pfachi dropped 16 points.
Munali looked worn out from Sunday’s nail-biting win over the Dolphins and found themselves trailing by 22-10 in the first quarter.
The floodgates opened in the second quarter with JBC adding 12 points to Munali’s paltry six for a 42-19 lead at halftime.
JBC continued with their dominance in the second half, scoring 45 points in a memorable performance.
“I am happy with the comeback we made as a team, it shows our strength but the job is not yet down we need to make sure we qualify for the tournament proper,’ said JBC coach, Addison Chiware.
The Zimbabwean side will now join 15 other teams in the Elite 16 division of two groups.
The top three teams from the two groups will qualify for the Basketball Africa League (BAL).
The six will join the six other teams that have automatically qualified from Angola, Egypt, Nigeria, Senegal, Tunisia, and Rwanda.
