ZTA restructuring set to boost tourism sector

Story by Tichaona Kurewa

THE Government has announced plans to restructure the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) to align the organisation with the country’s national development strategies.

The Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Honourable Barbra Rwodzi, recently revealed that the restructuring seeks to enhance the ZTA’s capacity to effectively promote tourism, attract foreign direct investment, and significantly contribute to economic growth.

“The existing structure was established many years ago, and since then, we have a new government, a new dispensation with a new President who has a new vision and a new strategy for governance.

“We in the ministries are aligning our structures with Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy, now transitioning to NDS2. A key part of this process is restructuring the ZTA.

“We are in the process of restructuring the ZTA. Very soon, we will see a new board in place, a CEO appointed, along with their executive management team, and a completely new organisational structure aligned with our overall ministry strategy,” said Minister Rwodzi.

She also revealed that the forensic audit preceding the restructuring exercise has now been completed.

“The forensic examination is complete, and we have submitted the findings to our superiors. We have received approvals on the next steps, which include appointing a new board.”

The ZTA has been operating without a board for over a year, a situation that observers agree needs to be rectified promptly to drive the recovery and growth of the tourism sector.
