CONSTRUCTION of a diversion route under the Msasa (Jaggers) Interchange Construction Project has commenced, marking a major step in the upgrading of one of Harare’s busiest road junctions, the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA) has said.

The works are taking place at the intersection of Harare Drive and the Harare-Mutare Road, where traffic congestion has long posed challenges to road users, particularly during peak hours.

In a statement on Wednesday, ZINARA said the start of detour construction in early 2026 underscores Government’s commitment to modernising critical road infrastructure, improving traffic flow and enhancing road safety in line with the country’s Vision 2030 development goals.

“Works have commenced on the construction of the diversion route (detour) under the Msasa (Jaggers) Interchange Construction Project, located at the junction of Harare Drive and Harare-Mutare Road. This remarkable milestone in early 2026 highlights Government’s strong commitment to upgrading key road infrastructure, improving traffic efficiency, and enhancing road safety in line with Vision 2030. Road users are advised to observe traffic signage and exercise caution as construction continues,” read the statement.

The Msasa Interchange Project is expected to significantly ease congestion along the eastern corridor into Harare, a key route for commercial, industrial and commuter traffic.

ZINARA has urged motorists and pedestrians to adhere strictly to traffic signage and exercise caution while construction works are underway to ensure safety and minimise disruptions.
