ZIMBABWE joined the global community in commemorating the International Children’s Day of Broadcasting, with children getting an opportunity to showcase their talents at the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporations Pockets Hill and Montrose studios.
These are the voices of the future, and this Sunday, the young participants eagerly assumed various roles, showcasing their talents and sharing their perspectives on the importance of the International Children’s Day of Broadcasting-ICDB.
“It was exciting to be here as we got to appreciate what its like being in the media, we got a chance to share our views and that is important. It was fun and we need more of these opportunities,” child participants said.
ZBC TV Children’s Programming Producer, Adiola Chiyangwa, highlighted the national broadcaster’s commitment to empowering children through its programming.
“We have a variety of programmes for children, our afternoon programmes are solely dedicated to children. The programmes differ, and now we are concentrating on programmes that are aligned to drug and substance abuse as it has become a national problem. We prefer children take part in their programmes because they have a better understanding of issues that affect them,” she said.
The International Children’s Day of Broadcasting aims to promote quality programming for children and encouraging their participation in the programming process.
This year’s theme, “Protecting Children’s Rights is Everyone’s Responsibility,” resonated with the young participants, who expressed gratitude for the opportunity to have their voices heard.
