ZANU PF President and First Secretary, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa says party interests reign supreme over personal ambition as the country prepares for general elections which will be held between July and August this year.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa spoke in no uncertain terms as he addressed the ZANU youth leadership this Wednesday, saying those in leadership positions should ensure Party interests supersede personal gain.
It is the President’s conviction that youths will play a critical role in this endeavour as the country heads for general elections this year.
“As you recall some time back, I launched the return home programme and this has seen many coming back. I urged you as youths to continue reaching out to as many people as possible. Those who want to work with us must do so according to our plan,” said the President.
“If you attempt to put ZANU PF in your pocket it will burn you. Let’s not waste time running in the streets and abusing drugs, instead make money,” he went on.
President Mnangagwa also said the government has prioritised food security, putting in place several measures to ensure each household is food secure.
“We sat down as the Second Republic and we want to ensure that every household is food secure. We have gone further to ensure we have enough land under irrigation to produce the Wheat we want,” he noted.
He added, “If we had not done that look at the situation in Ukraine now, which was a major Wheat supplier where would we get the wheat.”
He also urged affiliates of the party who attended the meeting to work within the party’s guiding principles and framework.
As he announced that he will soon proclaim the dates of the country’s general elections, President Mnangagwa said party structures including the Youth League should work round the clock to ensure a resounding victory for ZANU PF.
“At every polling station ZANU PF must be winning,” emphasised President Mnangagwa.
President Mnangagwa also told the gathering that he will attend the coronation of King Charles the Third (III) set for Westminster Abbey this Saturday in line with the country’s engagement and re-engagement policy.
“I will be attending the coronation of King Charles III,” he said.
President Mnangagwa is expected to leave for the coronation this Thursday evening.
