THE Young Women for Economic Development has launched a goat-rearing project focused on empowering young women in Matabeleland North’s Tsholotsho area.
There was jubilation at Mhlabangubo Primary School this Thursday when the goat project was rolled out.
The beneficiaries expressed joy at the potential of the initiative to transform their lives.
“This is an important project where I have received a starting point in my drive to do goat keeping as a business. I want to thank the government and the President for giving me this opportunity,” a beneficiary said.
“I will look after my goats and grow them to a herd that sustains my business,” another beneficiary said.
“For me as a woman, this means a lot. It means being involved in a business mainly a preserve for man. Thank you, President Mnangagwa,” a beneficiary added.
The project seeks to ensure women are kept in the mainstream national means of production and economic development.
“This means we are not only empowered but we are witnessing the Presidential mantra of leaving no one and no place behind being fulfilled in our time,” Tsholotsho South Member of Parliament Honourable Musa Ncube said.
“I have come with these goats from the President who is saying this project is for every young woman. These goats are not for consumption but for empowerment and ensuring you build wealth and empowerment among yourselves in your communities,” Young Women for ED National Chairperson, Honourable Tatenda Mavetera said.
The Second Republic is on a drive to ensure rural development and empowerment of citizens, as the country targets to attain an upper middle-income society by 2030.
