ZANU PF affiliate, Young Women for Economic Development (Young Women 4ED) has endorsed the Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill, citing progress in women’s empowerment under the Second Republic.
Parliament is expected to conduct nationwide public consultations in the coming days to gather views on the proposed amendment.
Ahead of the consultations, the organisation expressed support for the Bill, describing it as a step towards enhancing women’s representation, consolidating development gains and promoting youth participation in legislative processes.
“As young women, we are now seeing real change in our communities. Development is becoming more inclusive, and we feel recognised and empowered to contribute meaningfully to national progress,” said Young Women 4ED national chairperson and Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, Honourable Tatenda Mavetera.
“We are ready to take part in the upcoming public consultations. It is important for our voices as young women to be heard and to help shape decisions that affect our future,” said ZANU PF Mashonaland West Provincial Chairperson, Cde Mary Mliswa-Chikoka.
Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Marian Chombo, said the Bill addresses key issues affecting young women.
“We fully support this Bill because it speaks to inclusion, representation, and empowerment. It gives us confidence that our interests as young women are being taken seriously,” she said.
Young Women 4ED leadership, alongside provincial structures in Mashonaland West, has begun mobilising women to participate in the public consultations.
“As the Mashonaland West ruling party leadership, we are mobilising young women across all districts to take part in these public consultations. This is a critical platform for them to express their views and contribute to national policy formulation. We want to ensure that no voice is left behind, particularly that of the young woman, who is central to our development agenda,” said Cde Mliswa-Chikoka.
“We are encouraging full participation from young women because this Bill speaks directly to issues of inclusion, empowerment, and representation. It is important that young women come in their numbers, understand the provisions, and make their contributions so that the final outcome reflects their aspirations,” said Honourable Chombo.
The Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill seeks to promote political stability and align the country’s legal framework with national development objectives.
