THE Second Republic’s commitment to uplifting veterans of the liberation struggle continues to gather momentum, with the latest milestone being the handover of hand-driven tractors to former freedom fighters in Harare on Wednesday.
The 12-hand-driven tractors donation, sourced by Selome Mining Company Chief Executive Officer and son of a war veteran, Mr Peace Ndlovu, is designed to enhance agricultural productivity and provide sustainable livelihoods for beneficiaries.
The handover ceremony was officiated by the Minister of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Affairs, Honourable Monica Mavhunga, who said the initiative reflects the growing culture of inclusivity in national empowerment efforts.
“We are grateful to the President who has created a ministry specifically for war vets. It has done very well in catering for our welfare, and this gesture by one of our own children is commendable,” one of the beneficiaries said.
“We applaud what our son has done for us, remembering the comrades who liberated this country is something that all children must emulate,” another added.
The benefactor believes the gesture will inspire other children of war veterans to follow suit.
“I am an empowered citizen who believes that ploughing back to war veterans should be the in-thing to all because without these living legends, we would not be enjoying the freedom and peace to do business,” Mr Ndlovu said.
Honourable Mavhunga said veterans of the liberation struggle deserve tangible support from all progressive Zimbabweans.
“We are happy that the empowerment drive by President Mnangagwa to uplift war vets is now paying dividends, and with the coming on board of the children of war veterans, we appreciate that and we urge others to emulate that.”
The handover of hand-driven tractors follows the launch of the Presidential War Veterans Fund, aimed at empowering the former freedom fighters to start their own income-generating enterprises.
