VICTORIA Falls is preparing to host the Africa Footgolf Championship from November 23 to 25, a tournament expected to reinforce the city’s growing profile as a regional sports-tourism hub.

The competition, taking place at the Elephant Hills Golf Course, will feature teams from Zimbabwe, Germany, Slovenia, Morocco, South Africa and Zambia. The championship also serves as a qualifying event for the Footgolf World Cup in Mexico, adding a competitive edge to the three-day programme.

The Zimbabwe Footgolf Association (ZFGA) says timely support from partners helped secure the event after earlier financial challenges had placed hosting rights at risk.

“As ZFGA, we are happy to be hosting the Pinnacle Footgolf Tournament in Victoria Falls. It’s an opportunity to mingle with the best playing nations while also marketing the brand Zimbabwe. We are grateful to sponsors who stepped in at a crucial time, and we are confident we will perform to our utmost ability,” Zimbabwe Footgolf Association President, Daniel Kuwengwa said.

Zimbabwe will parade a formidable 25-member squad which has highly ranked players such as Senator Kambizi, Tadiwanashe Kambizi and Stancilous Nyachowe in the senior plus category, Donemore Kuwengwa in the juniors, Siphiwe Mubonderi in the ladies and Beauty Mashonganyika in the senior ladies. Winning individuals will qualify for Mexico.
