THE South-South Parliamentary Dialogue Forum has officially begun in Rabat, Morocco, bringing together key legislative figures from across the continent to discuss pressing issues and foster collaboration.

The platform aims to address challenges facing African nations while strengthening regional integration and promoting sustainable development.

Speaking at the forum, President of the Pan African Parliament (PAP) Chief Fortune Charumbira noted several challenges facing the continent in terms of travel restrictions, the urgent need for the full implementation of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area along with ambitious transnational infrastructure project aptly entitled the Trans- Sahara Highway or TAH 2, formally the Trans-Saharan Road Corridor (TSR), and also known as the African Unity Road, to facilitate trade, transportation, and regional integration among six African countries.

He added, the Atlantic Initiative proposed by Morocco in 2023, which makes Morocco’s road, port, and rail infrastructure available to landlocked Sahel countries such as Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, and Chad is a transformative vision for regional integration, calling on regional bodies to lend their support to such concrete initiatives to ensure they are fully implemented.

The PAP President further called on Parliaments to make laws and policies that promote the AI revolution and ensure they take the lead in spurring technological advancements, including putting in place legislative measures to ensure technology thrives.
