THE government continues to upgrade schools in a bid to improve access to better education for children across the country.
Since the establishment of Guzha Secondary School and Mushayavanhu Primary School in Gutu Central, the two facilities have been operating without administration blocks.
However, the coming in of the Second Republic has changed their story as two fully furnished administration blocks were commissioned this Saturday.
“Guzha Secondary School was established in 1997, and since then, there has been no administration block, and it has been very difficult for teachers as we have been using the storeroom as offices. However, we are grateful to President Emmerson Mnangagwa and our Legislator Honourable Winston Chitando for establishing this facility, which comprises offices and a staffroom,” Guzha Secondary School Head, Mr Obert Chibodo said.
“As a community, we have always wished to have this administration block, but it was difficult for us; however, the coming in of our leaders made everything easy for us, and as a community, we have been supporting this project through availing ourselves for labour,” Stephen Mupandawana said.
“We are grateful that after the establishment of this block, the school also received furniture, hence reducing the burden to our limited coffers,” Rumbidzai Chimuka said.
At Mushayavanhu Primary School, community involvement also played a key role, cementing President Mnangagwa’s mantra of nyika inovakwa nevene vayo/ ilizwe lakhiwa ngabanikazi balo.
“This project was started by the community; however, due to financial constraints, we were not able to complete it however The intervention of the Second Republic,” Mushayavanhu Primary School Head, Mr Bernard Vorimayi said.
“We commend the community for taking part in this development inspired by President Mnangagwa’s call to participate in all development programmes in their communities,” Councillor Benson Dandira said.
Speaking after commissioning the two projects, area legislator Honourable Winston Chitando said the goal is to ensure improved access to education in rural schools.
“Today we were focusing on education, walking the vision of our President, Cde Mnangagwa, Vision 2030. This vision is anchored on many pillars, including education; hence, we were commissioning administration blocks at Guzha Secondary School and here at Mushayavanhu Primary School. We want to thank the community for the support, hence we continue to encourage our communities to take part in development programmes undertaken in their communities as they are meant to improve their livelihoods,” he said.
Apart from education developments, several programmes are being implemented in Gutu Central, including electrification, establishment of village business units, construction and upgrading of clinics and roads.
