Residents pledge commitment to peace, tolerance

Story by Kenias Chivuzhe

ZANU PF has scaled up peace campaigns ahead of the general elections set for the 23rd of this month.

The ZANU PF-organised march to promote peace in Mutare this weekend saw both party supporters and residents participating and pledging to play their part in ensuring the holding of a violent free election.

ZANU PF legislative candidates for Mutare urban constituencies were at the forefront of the campaign.

“We are following the call for peace by our President, Cde ED Mnangagwa who is denouncing violence. We are campaigning for peace in our constituencies. We want to campaign peacefully and we urge everyone to respect peace during the campaigns and polls,” said ZANU PF candidate for Chikanga Constituency, Kenneth Muchina.

“As the aspiring legislator for Mutare Central, I am saying no to political violence. Politicians should shun issues that anger people. We are saying people should campaign freely but not utter words that provoke people to engage in violence. As ZANU PF party we are saying no to political violence,” said ZANU PF candidate for Mutare Central constituency, Dr Isau Mupfumi.

President Mnangagwa is on record calling upon all political parties and all citizens to uphold and cherish peace before, during and after the 23 August general elections.
