President Xi stresses CPC’s role in building a strong, modern China

President Xi Jingping says the central task of the Communist Party of China is building the country into a strong nation and achieving national rejuvenation on all fronts by pursuing Chinese modernisation.

President Xi, who is also the Secretary General of the party’s Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, was speaking this Monday to delegates at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

China’s National Day falls on the 1st of October.

President Xi stressed that advancing the great cause of Chinese modernisation is the best way to celebrate the country’s anniversary.

He emphasised that in order to advance Chinese modernisation, it is imperative to always uphold the core role of the Party in exercising overall leadership and co-ordinating the efforts of all sides, follow the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, deepen reforms across the board and expand opening up, uphold a people centred approach and remain committed to peaceful development.

President Xi said Chinese people will make more remarkable achievements and greater contributions to the noble cause of peace and development of humanity.

He paid tribute to all ethnic groups in China, to the officers and soldiers of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army and the People’s Armed Police Force and other political parties including those without party affiliation.

President Xi also extended greetings to compatriots in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions, in Taiwan and as well as overseas Chinese.

He also expressed gratitude to friendly countries and international friends who care about and support the development of the People’s Republic of China.

The Premier, Li Qiang and the chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Zhao Leji, were among the high ranking officials who attended the event together with around three thousand Chinese and foreign guests.
