President Emmerson Mnangagwa has described the late former Vice President of Zimbabwe, Dr John Landa Nkomo as an ardent revolutionary, diligent nation-builder and dedicated champion of peace.
In a statement to mark the 12th anniversary since the death of the former Vice President, President Mnangagwa said Cde Landa Nkomo was a passionate educator, an eloquent and forthright politician who pioneered lasting developmental projects in his rural Tsholotsho District and beyond.
Dr Landa Nkomo, who died on the 17th of January in 2013, served in several ministerial portfolios from 1981 to 2022, before being elected Speaker of Parliament in 2005.
He also served as Minister of State in the President’s Office Responsible for National Healing, Reconciliation and Integration as well as National Chairperson of the ruling ZANU PF Party in 2009.
In the same year, he was appointed Vice President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, a position he held until his death in 2013.
President Mnangagwa noted that Dr Landa Nkomo exuded unparalleled patriotism and dedication to the values of unity and peace as expressed in his popular mantra: “Peace begins with me. Peace begins you. Peace begins with all of us”.
The Head of State said as the nation remembers Dr Landa Nkomo, Zimbabweans must cherish the peace and tranquility that has become the cornerstone of the national developmental trajectory.
