President Mnangagwa meets CPPCC representative

Story by Bruce Chahwanda, Political Editor

The visiting vice chairperson of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Cde Jiang Xinzhi paid a courtesy call on President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House in Harare this Tuesday.

The CPPCC top official and his delegation arrived in the country this Monday to share notes with the ruling ZANU PF leadership and find ways of strengthening bilateral relations between Beijing and Harare.

Zimbabwe and China enjoy cordial relations which have seen the Asian economic giant providing financial and technical support towards the expansion of the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, construction of the New Parliament Building in Mt Hampden as well as the Hwange Power Station Unit 7 and 8 project that has added 600 megawatts to the national grid.

On the political front, China stood with Zimbabwe at the turn of the millennium, when it vetoed a UN Security Council resolution that could have allowed the invasion of Zimbabwe by the United States of America and its Western allies who were irked by the Southern African country’s land reform programme.
