PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has visited the Namibian Embassy in Harare to convey his condolences after the death of the country’s founding President, Dr Sam Nujoma.

Dr Nujoma died on February 8, and burial is set for this Saturday in the country’s capital, Windhoek.

President Mnangagwa, who was accompanied by the Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister, Professor Amon Murwira, was welcomed by Namibia’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, His Excellency, Nicklaas Kandjii and embassy staff.

Speaking to journalists after signing the condolence book, President Mnangagwa described the late Dr Nujoma as a great leader of the Southern African region.

“We are saddened by the passing of this great leader of Southern Africa. We in Zimbabwe cherish his leadership. We were like twins Zimbabwe and Namibia, so we say to our brothers and sisters in Namibia, we mourn with you,” the President said.

Dr Nujoma died at the age of 95 at a hospital in Windhoek.

He served Namibia as President between 1990 and 2005 and was among the few remaining African revolutionaries of his time.
