PANAMA Ambassador to Zimbabwe, His Excellency Rodrigo Guillermo Chiari Alvarez, says his country is eager to strengthen bilateral relations with Zimbabwe, with a particular focus on food security, trade and human development.
Speaking after presenting his credentials to President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House this Thursday, Ambassador Alvarez said this marks the first time Panama has been represented in Zimbabwe.
“This is the first time that Panama is represented in Zimbabwe and we are looking forward to close collaboration in order to look at fields that involve food security and other important areas,” he said.
The ambassador revealed that while there are currently no Panamanian companies operating in Zimbabwe, efforts will be made to facilitate trade and investment engagements.
“At the current moment we have no companies operating in Zimbabwe, but we will make sure that eventually trade missions will be seen in Harare and other parts of your country in order to seek opportunities to develop relations in trade,” Ambassador Alvarez said.
He described his meeting with President Mnangagwa as warm and productive, noting shared aspirations between the two nations.
“It was a very friendly meeting where we exchanged different points of view. We are both developing countries and we believe in people’s empowerment and the efforts every government makes in order to ensure its people live in proper conditions and enjoy a high quality of life,” he said.
